In truth, the purpose of a two party system is the maintenance of a political cartel. Within such a framework, viable alternatives are overlooked and the same logically bankrupt status quo remains enshrined. To qualify this contention, I will briefly examine one major issue that occupies the mind of the voter: the war. To be sure, this is not the only point of convergence for the Democrats and Republicans, but it is one of the most transparently fraudulent dichotomies on the political landscape. The dominant perception holds that Republicans are "hawks" while Democrats are "doves." However, history does not bear out this dualistic portrait.

Book Review: 1984 by George Orwell
It has been nearly sixty years since 1984 was published, yet in the ensuing decades it has not lost any of its terror, or warning. 1984 is still considered the greatest of the “negative utopia” novels.
It is interesting that Orwell, a socialist, had such a negative view of what socialism would and could do. Instead of heading his warnings, it seems as though the government of the leading nations of the world have made 1984 a blueprint.
In 1984 Orwell describes a one party-run, all-powerful government that controls all knowledge and information. The world of 1984 is a world in which whatever the powerful say is Truth, is Truth and the only Truth. Should they change their minds about that Truth, then the original Truth never existed.
The majority of the people of the nation of Oceania are “prols” – short for the proletariat – an uneducated, self-absorbed people who care only about their needs. They have been programmed to accept their world as the only one possible. There is no freedom, there is no Liberty; there never has been. Even if there were, who would want it?
1984 is no longer a vision of warning: it is a vision of what will be. 1984 is becoming a reality.
Today, the majority of Americans care nothing of freedom or liberty. We are consumed with our wants and desires. We willingly accept the sleaziest of politicians as our masters. We care not what they do, as long as the economy is good and we are “safe”. We are content to choose the “lesser of two evils” in every election. We operate on a mob mentality, so that the media and the government can prod us into whatever action they desire from us.
1984 is no longer the future; 1984 is now.
