Rebecca Felton on Government Schools
Rebecca Felton saw the need to educate young people to become literate individuals set on the path to further study as each was equipped by nature, but she also recognized the socialist tendencies of government and how easy it is to spend other peoples' money. She was the wife of a Georgia legislator and a women's rights activist; and most notably spoke to the 1897 Georgia Agricultural Exposition regarding the rape of unprotected farm women by black men while white farmers were tending crops. This crime was serious enough at the time for her to publicly demand that black leaders use their influence to help stop it. It was this speech by Felton that fanatical black Wilmington newspaperman Alexander Manly used in a August 1898 editorial, and made the incredible claim that the farm women actually encouraged the advances of the black rapists. Responsible citizens in Wilmington was understandably outraged, and Manly can be credited with the violence that ensued.

"I have never been an admirer of our public school system, set up in Reconstruction days, and full of handicaps and infirmities. Some years ago I was invited by the Legislature of Georgia to meet with joint session of House and Senate and talk it over from my viewpoint. Since that time the system has grown more unwieldy as to size and more costly as to expense. It is surprising to know that our lawmakers did not appreciate the impossibility of covering the ground and getting all the children educated by failing to command compulsory attendance.
When Georgia legislators assumed the liberty to commandeer or conscript your tax money to educate my child it was only just, fair and equitable to compel me to send that child to school or know the reason why (I didn't). I fully understand that public utilities are hard to manage, but I also agree with a level-headed old legislator who was "agin the whole business, because it is the easiest thing to do, spend other peoples' money."
The basic principle in such education is protection against ignorance and illiteracy, it being a preventive to crime and disorder as elaborately expounded, but the public school education is or should be limited to a plain English education, for it is a well-established fact that many of our greatest criminals are the best educated; and it is rank socialism to take your money by force for any such purpose. Our public school education is a sort of molding machine where all the children are herded together and forced into the molds prepared by theorists, sometimes thoroughly impractical in general use and application.
It is a gigantic scheme to squander tax money, growing bigger every year and standing in the way of a better and more satisfactory way of securing education for the very people who need it the most, and care the least for this opportunity of free tuition. Up to this time there have been millions of tax money drafted or conscripted out of those who own something, to pay teachers and school commissioners, while the parents of no-account homes can completely defeat the undertaking by keeping the children in the cotton patch or in mill work, instead of attending school."

MORE REASONS TO AVOID HUCKABEE
I really do not think we need any more reasons why Christians of all people should not support Mike Huckabee for president. I have already written one piece on this matter. However, it seems that some folks need more reasons. So, here are a few more.
This is probably the biggest eye catcher yet. Although, Huckabee's stance on abortion is poor (that's enough for me), he is more pro-Mexico than George Bush (yet, we need more reasons), and he raised taxes to unknown heights will governor of Arkansas - despite all this Christians are running to him for no other reason than he is a former Baptist minister, for whatever that is worth. Huckabee has made no attempt to cover up the fact that he is courting the favor of the power elite - ding, ding, ding! Another warning! Now the elite are giving him their stamp of approval.
The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is now promoting Huckabee's "Foreign Policy". The CFR's website is carrying Huckabee's speech on foreign policy that he gave on September 28, 2007, at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC. "Huckabee's Foreign Policy" is just more of the neo-con interventionism that we have become accustomed to over the last 20 years or more. You can read the complete text here.
The fact that the CFR is posting Huckabee's foreign policy on their website, speaks volumes. It seems that the elite are protecting themselves in case people turn against the so-called front-runners. They need a second man to stand in to be on the safe side.
So, why should Christians support a man like Huckabee, who will sell his soul to big brother for the price of 20 million votes? I can't think of anything logical.
Still want more reasons? Look at Huckabee's tax hike record while governor of Arkansas. Why do we want to see another big government, big spending Republican (or Democrat) to the White House? A website has been set up that details Huckabee's tax and spend record. Read the information for yourself, and then ask yourself, "Is this the man I want to steal the rest of my paycheck?"

THE FIRST THANKSGIVING
Most Americans do not realize that it was not the Pilgrims of the North who first celebrated a Day of Thanksgiving to the Lord, but rather it was some folks in Virginia - nearly two full years before the Pilgrim celebration.
Yes, this is one of those amazing little facts that is never told to schoolchildren. In all probability, this is one fact that has NEVER been told to American schoolchildren.
While the Pilgrims were good, Christian folks (quite unlike the Puritans who would follow them several years later and establish the colonies of New England), it is important that we learn about those who held the FIRST Thanksgiving celebration, and why they chose to thank their God.
Another thing to remember is that it was a Southern president, George Washington in fact, who gave the first official proclamation of Thanksgiving for the United states of America.

KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY
I have received some encouraging responses from folks in the last few days since I first reported information on the Liberty Dollar raid. Dark days are ahead of all of us. The country that our forefathers gave to us as an inheritance has been turned into the very thing that they feared the most. It is encouraging to know that there are at least a few who are not blind, but rather see the truth of the matter.
Here are some of the comments I have received. Some were edited for clarity -
I am almost afraid to write this. I am afraid our government has become as tyrannical as the gestapo. But our "Fed" has more sophisticated technology at it's disposal. You are to be applauded for you efforts to inform the public about what is really going on.

It infuriates me beyond words, as much as it did when the office of the Puget Sound Insurance alternative was raided...when Hovind was jailed, and when healers are raided by armed federal drug [agents] for healing people without drugs. We haven't got a lot of time left here in Amerika. The thugs are getting worse every day and the fake conservative organizations and celebrity preachers are showing who they really are. Keep your nose in the Bible and your powder dry.

I'll be honest, I have tried to stay away from this one. But I felt that I must put in my 2 cents worth. Anyone that truly believes that we are "free" here in the U.S. are either deluding themselves or naive. I will also say that as a veteran and Christian, I will not allow my rights to be squished. I will stand on God's Holy Word and probably wind up in jail if Hillary gets a 3rd term. They say that the truth hurts and I believe that absolute truth hurts absolutely. The one's that are really deceiving themselves are the one's that say there is no God or if there is one He/she will NEVER send anyone to hell. God exists, Jesus is His Son, The Bible is His Written Word and everyone who TRULY believes in Jesus will be vindicated by God.
BTW: I ALWAYS keep my powder dry, it don't do no good if it ain't.
