Earlier this week I notified you that FreedomWorks was conducting a straw poll among GOP presidential candidates. Dr. Ron Paul won with 56.2%, followed by Fred Thompson in a distant second with 16.2%. No one else received above 6%.
Hopefully, this is prediction of how the Iowa Straw Poll will be. However, like Dr. Paul, I am being "cautiously optimistic".

What a great time we had in San Antonio last weekend. An enthusiastic bunch of Texans thronged the Alamo for a rally, and then there was a fundraising dinner at an historic museum. More than a thousand people attended one or the other.
San Antonio is a military town. Indeed, I served there myself in the Air Force, and lots of soldiers and airmen came up to offer their support. Some were Iraq veterans, some were headed there, and all supported getting us out.
As I told the crowd, with our non-interventionist foreign policy, there would be 3,600 young Americans still alive, and 25,000 more not badly wounded. It got the biggest response of the evening.
Then a 14-year-old girl told me she was helping the campaign so her daddy, a soldier, would not have to go to Iraq. I told her there are many thousands of us working to that exact end, to keep him and all the others safe. What an outrage that we are accused of not supporting the troops. What a scam when the warmongers claim to be pro-soldier.
Lots of military people turned out to be aware that our campaign got more donations from soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines than any other. Funny, that made a big impression in Congress too. Many of my colleagues were amazed and encouraged that you can be against this unconstitutional and disastrous war, and get military support.
This weekend I meet with family, high-school classmates, and local friends and supporters in Pittsburgh. We are really looking forward to it!
Then it’s a full week in Iowa. On Sunday, there’s the ABC debate, and next weekend is the Ames straw poll. Other campaigns seem to be pulling back, to try to lower expectations. We are stepping things up, with more staff, another office, and a significant TV and radio buy. This all costs a lot of money, of course, as does our continuing work in New Hampshire, South Carolina, Arizona, and other states.
But I have been thrilled by the support among Iowa Republicans for our issues - on the war, on pro-life, on fiscal conservatism. This is fertile territory for us. Now we just have to work harder than our opponents at recruiting supporters, organizing them, and getting them to the straw poll.
Some media have hinted that a good showing by our campaign would be a bombshell. I don’t make predictions, but I am cautiously optimistic about our chances. However, I very much need your help.
We got a lot of good publicity earlier about our prudence in spending. Indeed, I treat every donation with care, since it comes from a good American who shares our hope for the future, and who had to work hard to earn that money.
But all that publicity about our non-spendthrift ways had a “blowback” effect - if you will excuse the expression. It made some people feel the campaign did not need support, right at the very time we especially need it.

A President's Fantasy is a Soldier's Curse

General William C. Westmoreland, in his ©1976 book, A Soldier Reports, (Doubleday & Company New York) tells the reader, "Under a panel of glass on my desk from the time I assumed command in Saigon I kept a quotation from Napoleon Bonaparte: ‘A commander-in-chief cannot take as an excuse for his mistakes in warfare an order given by his sovereign or his minister, when the person giving the order is absent from the field of operations and is imperfectly aware or wholly unaware of the latest state of affairs. It follows that any commander-in-chief who undertakes to carry out a plan which he considers defective is at fault; he must put forward his reasons, insist on the plan being changed, and finally tender his resignation rather than be the instrument of his army’s downfall.’”
In that same book, he writes, “The enemy’s obvious use of Cambodia as a sanctuary and the refusal of Washington authorities to allow me to do anything about it was frustrating.” For me that was General Westmoreland’s personal admission of what I consider cowardly behavior. Not only General Westmoreland, but every general or admiral between him and the White House who refused to stand up to those who would deny our fighting men and those of the allies a fair chance on the battlefield were guilty of aiding the enemy. Why wasn’t there a torrent of resignations when those who led our forces in battle recognized that the President and the Congress were aiding and abetting the enemy?
There is no other way to look at it. When the enemy is given a place to attack from and return to with immunity by the very leaders who send their men to fight and die in battle, those leaders are guilty of aiding and abetting the enemy.
We were fortunate in 1965 in South Vietnam when a real man of courage stepped forward to protect his people, the 64,000 Hoa Haos who called An Phu District their home. He carried a demand to the IV Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Quang Van Dang, that he be allowed to lead his men against the Communist forces, to follow them in hot pursuit into Cambodia and to effectively deny the enemy sanctuary within mortar range of irregular forces. These brave fighters were all of the Hoa Hao Sect of the Buddhist religion. That leader was Major Phoi Van Le, my counterpart when I was sent in to An Phu to command the first top secret irregular force operations against the enemy inside their Cambodian sanctuaries.
President Johnson, perhaps unaware of what Major Le had achieved in the way of “special permission” to actually take the war to the enemy, maintained his tough and unequivocal policy of permitting the enemy safe-havens, a point well proven during an early August, 1966 briefing of Army Chief of Staff General Harold K. Johnson by Lieutenant Colonel Brewer, commander of Special Forces Team B-42 in Chau Doc, South Vietnam. As Colonel Brewer was briefing General Johnson, with all of Brewer’s staff and A team commanders present, General Johnson interrupted and demanded to know what the yellow highlighted areas inside Cambodia represented. “The yellow represents known VC sanctuaries” Brewer responded. In an angry tone and directing as ridiculous an order as any of us in that room could imagine, being each one of us had faced enemy who attacked our areas from those very same sanctuaries, General Johnson interrupted again, “Remove them from the map, Colonel. The President of the United States has told the American people that Cambodia does not permit its territory to be used by the enemy.”
An uneasy stillness followed. Colonel Brewer was stunned. Looking directly at the General, he said, “The sanctuaries are real, General, and what you see here is based on good intelligence.” He went on to explain that the officers sitting behind him, of whom I was one, could verify the sanctuary existence in those areas. General Johnson, whom we all knew despised those of us who wore the Green Beret, ignoring the truth, again told Colonel Brewer to remove the sanctuaries from his operations map, concluding, “The President of the United States has told the American People that Cambodia has not allowed its territory to be used by the enemy.” Then, as if to add some sort of verbal “encouragement” (I believe a threat) General Johnson rose from his chair, walked over to Colonel Brewer and whispered in his ear.
Enemy sanctuaries were removed from the map! I was then convinced in my heart and mind that from the White House down to General Westmoreland, there stood a bunch of weak-kneed military officers and civilian leaders unable to exercise honorable judgment and lacking the courage to demand the enemy no longer be given refuge. In my judgment they were directly responsible for the majority of the Americans, South Vietnamese, and other allies killed or wounded in that war and there is no doubt in my mind that it was those same cowardly, unpatriotic military and civilian leaders who caused the nation of South Vietnam to vanish from the face of the earth. Shame on each and every one!
In a vain attempt to silence me and bankrupt me and my publisher the Special Forces Association developed a lawsuit with six of the seven plaintiffs being obviously intimidated former members of US Army Special Forces Team A-424 when I was its commander. All of these men were heroic Green Berets as indeed they were in 1966 when under my command as is told in my book Expendable Elite - One Soldier's Journey Into Covert Warfare. Each had to have succumbed to intimidation by those within the Special Forces Association, the Special Operations Command or the Central Intelligence Agency who wanted the truth in my book buried. The aiding of the enemy, the CIA's plot to assassinate a nation's leader and actual attempts to kill me and those who served with me (Americans and South Vietnamese alike) was to be hidden from the public. The $700,000.00 plus lawsuit was directed at my publisher, Kris Millegan and myself. Two of the three attorneys for the plaintiffs had represented Special Forces for a number of years and no doubt hoped we would not show up in court. We took on the unconventional giants with our Lord at our side and with the truth as our defense. We won victory over the evil that attempted to silence us and we published the Victory Edition of Expendable Elite with more than 100 added pages covering the trial and showing a great deal of evidence we used in our defense.
I have written the Commanding Generals of the US Army Combined Arms Center and the US Special Operations Command, the Commandant of the US Army War College and the Superintendent of the US Military Academy at West Point asking that they take action to instruct/brief staff and students as applicable regarding our aiding and abetting of the enemy in their training and/or education programs. I also asked that they provide me a copy of their recommendations to their higher commands (DA/DOD) regarding the forbidding of any aiding or abetting of the enemy and outlawing any actions taken to kill our own military personnel and thus far have not heard so much as a recognition of the fact they received my correspondence which included a signed copy of the Victory Edition of Expendable Elite. I have also provided Congressman Ron Paul with the complete set of information and my book, suggesting that he spearhead a drive to demand we no longer aid the enemy.
I would hope and pray that each of you who reads this Mustang Report has the courage to write your Congressmen and Senators and insist they pass the needed laws to assure the safety of our armed forces, by way of protecting them from what has in the past been illegal and immoral actions of our own government. The Myth of 'Executive Privilege'

Bush Administration officials have announced that President Bush will use a claim of "Executive Privilege" to thwart congressional investigation into the firings of several U.S. attorneys. This claim is the latest in a long series of unconstitutional invocations of the notion of Executive Privilege by presidents prominent and obscure.
In fact, Executive Privilege is itself a myth unfounded in the language or original understanding of the Constitution. The Constitution was not supposed to give presidents power to withhold information from Congress.

At the latest round of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Committee meetings in New York, members of the CEDAW committee criticized Hondurans for their pro-life laws, telling their delegation that the total ban on abortions is "a crime." Committee member Heisoo Shin told the Honduran delegation that it was necessary for the government to "create a momentum, a social force that stops the crime that allows a woman to die, to risk unsafe abortion and not have self-determination."

When I made my presentation to the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER) on June 21, I stated an “Assertion” at that the Liberty Dollar Model could solve our country’s monetary problems. I said in particular that the Liberty Dollar provided a proven, peaceful, proactive, and profitable solution to the national debt, trade imbalance, Social Security, declining value of the US dollar and every other money related problem.
How? Simply by returning the US dollar to a value based monetary unit that is market driven, the US government could grow its way out of debt.
Money is so central to all human events that the only action necessary is to change the money. Of course this is already happening on an individual basis. But how could America right its monetary course given the existing monetary structure?

These two actions by the Secretary of the Treasury would gradually convert the money to a value based monetary system and finance the government’s way out of its current monetary quagmire and resolve the national debt.
The new Secretary of the Treasury could announce this change on his first day in office. Will it throw the world markets into disorder? No. Quite the opposite, it will bring order to the market. Will metal prices increase? Yes. But they are already increasing as people and foreign governments flee the depreciating US dollar. The metal prices will continue to increase regardless of any government action, be it negative or positive.
Will everybody rush out to get the new silver based currency? No. Did everybody save the old pre-1964 silver quarters when the new clad quarters were issued in 1965? No. People’s attitudes about money change slowly. Plus the government can specify market exchange mechanisms while maintaining a disciplined monetary system ala the Liberty Dollar Model that puts the government in a positive cash flow position.
So the simple solution to our country’s monetary problems is to view the government as a wholly owned corporation by the people. As such the government corporation provides a market driven currency with a face value that has a significant premium over its bullion value. The government corporation profits from issuing specie and audited warehouse receipts in gold and silver. No need for the IRS either.
Is this Assertion a viable solution? Is there any historic evidence that such a value based model will work or has worked in the past? The answers are a resounding, yes! Over the past 5,000 years of monetary history, gold and silver has always held its value. While on the other hand, fiat systems like the current Federal Reserve scheme have always failed.
Early American history provides a clear example of how our Founding Fathers corrected the country’s monetary course after the Revolutionary War. When General George Washington won the Battle of Yorktown in 1781 and secured independence for the United States, the country had anything but peace. Inflation was over 5000%, unemployment was everywhere, buildings were deserted, open lawlessness, kidnappings and ride by shootings were common. Riots and lack of goods and food was noted by historians of the time.
Our Founding Fathers mentioned that they had to fight their way through angry crowds to get into what is now Independence Hall. The country was at war with itself because of the fiat money issued during the Revolutionary War. But within two years after signing the US Constitution that removed the bank’s ability to “issue bills of credit” the young country was at peace, everybody was back at work and the stores had stocked shelves.
This can and will happen again. But not until we change the monetary system. We either change the money or lose our country to tyranny. That is the choice we face today.
To understand that value is the correct course of action, one must understand that we have been on the wrong course since 1913 when the Federal Reserve was granted control over the US dollar by Congress. Since that time the United States, and gradually the whole world, has been living a monetary lie. We have witnessed the largest relocation (theft) of the people’s money into the private hands (Federal Reserve owners), who control the government.
The Liberty Dollar model offers a rational, reasoned, and disciplined method to provide an orderly revaluation of the US and global monetary system into real terms. Anything short of such a solution will wreck havoc and disorder on the global monetary system.
Admittedly, the Liberty Dollar model will not be accepted, or even appreciated, for quite some time. It is during that time, you can do what is right by protecting your own purchasing power, personal wealth and profit. We are witnessing a global revaluation from fiat to substance. Substance has always won. It will win this time. Please do what is in your best interest... and hope that includes some Liberty Dollars.

Recently, I was introduced to a very intriguing new book entitled Legally STUPiD by RC Murray. Mr. Murray spent fours teaching English in two Harnett County, North Carolina public high schools, and tells the story of his experience in this book.
I am very excited about his book. I believe every American, definitely every Christian, and absolutely every Baptist, ought to read this book. Do you really want to know what is going on in our government indoctrination, I mean education, system? Do you really care what is or is not being funneled into the minds of our children? If so Mr. Murray's book will open your eyes.
