From the Ron Paul 2008 campaign:
Enthusiasm for the Ron Paul presidential campaign increases by the day. From Pasadena, California to Manchester, New Hampshire, people are responding to Ron Paul's message of freedom, peace and prosperity. The more they hear, the more they want to be a part of the campaign.
The first Ron Paul MeetUp group started with one person two months ago in Pasadena. Now, there are 11,383 members in 269 cities who have held 293 events nationwide. Dr. Paul tops the charts among all presidential candidates on Eventful.com, MySpace.com, and YouTube.com. Phone calls and e-mails continue to pour into our office. Interview requests from the national broadcast and print media are much more frequent.
The United Republicans of California unanimously endorsed Dr. Paul's candidacy. This group was formed in 1963 and represents the traditional conservative wing of the GOP in California. Former New Hampshire State Representative Barbara Hagan, one of the most respected leaders in the pro-life community in America, has endorsed Dr. Paul.
Tonight (June 13), Congressman Paul will be a guest on the Colbert Report. Tomorrow evening (June 14), Congressman Paul will speak to the National Taxpayers Union convention in Washington, D.C. The following day (June 15), he will address the National Right to Life convention in Kansas City. He then travels to Phoenix to speak before the Arizona Republican Assembly on Saturday (June 16).
Yes, enthusiasm for Ron Paul's campaign for president is building! And that was never more evident than in Manchester, New Hampshire a week ago during the CNN debate at Saint Anselm College. Hundreds of Ron Paul supporters showed their support at the debate site, and then afterwards at Murphy's Tap Room in downtown Manchester.
Our new video of the CNN debate is longer than normal, but the extra time was needed to accurately show the enthusiasm from that day, along with all of Congressman Paul's answers. To watch it, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwJKGfAWQUo
Thank you!

MUSTANG REPORT # 9.
U.S. Army Special Forces
Civic Action: The Building of Loyalty & Trust
Civic Action: The Building of Loyalty & Trust
=====================================================
Before I get into the meat of this report I would like to introduce you to a very special website and a real hero of mine. Major Glenn MacDonald has voluntarily assumed the role of a modern day crusader for justice. Every day he goes up against those who would undermine law and order within the military establishment. It is those who, through use of devious or downright illegal actions to protect persons of rank, that deny the victims of their actions justice in the truest sense of the word. Perhaps I am particularly concerned because I have two grandsons in the military and would want Major MacDonald, a man of courage and unquestioned integrity working with other brave men and women to help rid the "System" of evil men and women who are not mentally equipped to lead our troops.
Fighting for the Truth ... Exposing the Corrupt
Maj. Glenn MacDonald: staff@militarycorruption.com
======================================================
Civic Action, as I define it in my book Expendable Elite, is "The use of American and local military, paramilitary or irregular forces on projects useful to the local population in such fields as transportation, training, public works, agriculture, transportation, communications, health, sanitation and others contributing to economic and social development, which also serve to improve the standing of the central government with the local population."
Have no doubt in your minds that the need for effective civic action programs, using qualified Special Operations personnel with a knowledge of the local language or the availability of loyal interpreters is absolutely essential in Iraq and Afghanistan or any other nation whose native people have been taught by one method or another to dislike, distrust or even hate outsiders, especially Americans. We must, as the words of the catchy phrase "Winning the Hearts and Minds of the People" imply, do what is needed to develop a bond between our forces and those who we have been sent to help.
This concept was used very effectively during Special Forces instruction to the officer's class I was part of on Smoke Bomb Hill at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. It was in the spring of 1964 when we were taught that one of the primary roles of the U.S. Army Special Forces in a counter-insurgency warfare situation such as it was in the Vietnam "conflict," more aptly called a WAR. Those of us who were on the ground facing the enemy knew it was a war. Our mission in An Phu, South Vietnam, would include civic action, psychological warfare and military government operations such as we lived and dealt with on a daily basis from 27 December 1965 through 2 August 1966.
Counter-Insurgency is comprised of military, paramilitary, psychological warfare, political, economical and civic actions taken by a government to defeat a subversive insurgency. Conversely, insurgency is an insurrection against a constituted government that falls short of civil war. Victory by insurgency depends on the insurgent's ability to enlist the local population, either by fear through intimidation or by convincing those same people that their government is self-serving, thereby gaining their numbers in the insurgent's base, and in doing so, weakening the government's capabilities as their loyal base shrinks.
I like what Hans Halberstadt, in his book Green Berets - Unconventional Warriors: In Action With America's Elite Fighting Men (Berkley Books, NY © 1989), said of the Army's Special Forces Organization: "It is, within the Army, a group of men at the tactical level who are taught to look at conflict in a radically different manner, in subtle political and social ways, at the reasons behind conflict, rather than the popular and sensational reasons found on television or in newspapers."
You will learn, when you read Expendable Elite - One Soldier's Journey Into Covert Warfare, that our Special Forces team A-424, working with the Vietnamese Special Forces in An Phu, South Vietnam, devoted 60% of our day-to-day effort to civic action, psychological warfare and military government operations. Our conscious efforts convinced the 64,000 people of An Phu that we truly cared about them. We worked to show the central government in Saigon that the Hoa Hao people posed no threat to them, which was what the government once feared to be the case. We would, within 30 days of our taking on an "independent warfare operation" mission, retake ground that had been occupied by the enemy, provide a high level of security in our area, weed out local insurgent sympathizers and gain the loyalty of the citizens. They then, without fail, made us aware of any enemy activity, no matter how insignificant, that could adversely affect the people of An Phu.
Colonel Harry L. Corkill, speaking to me when I first reported in as a Sergeant First Class to be his right hand man in the 82d Airborne Division Logistical Support Center, expressed an "attitude" about dealing with people, telling me what I will never forget: "Marv," he told me, "loyalty must first go down and then it will bounce back up on its own and you can count on that." With that in mind I led my team of Green Berets in serving the people of An Phu in every aspect of our independent operations, keeping their security and welfare uppermost in daily priorities. Once, having witnessed our loyalty through individual and team actions, the people, almost 100% Buddhists of the Hoa Haos Sect, understood that we cared for them and they then did all they could to let us experience the reality of their caring for us.
Proof of the pudding? You could ask any of my men who had been out on combat patrol with our Hoa Hao Irregulars, what it was like and their most likely response would be to let you know that the only place the enemy could have shot them would have been in the head because our Hoa Haos would virtually surround them to protect them once bullets started flying. Judging from that you can rest assured that we had, in fact, "won the hearts and minds of the people."

This is more destructive to our nation than the September 11, 2001, Muslim murder of 3,000 innocent Americans. Here are the groups that are actively helping the Muslim murders to take over our country:
1. The News Media: They support anyone who hates this nation and seeks its destruction.
2. Public Schools: They are run by the liberal NEA and want every child in America destroyed.
3. Liberal Judges: They over throw the will and the good of the people to help destroy America.
4. Hollywood: They promote pro-Muslim, anti-Christian programming.
5. Politicians: The Democrats actively support the destruction of America while the Republicans are too cowardly to take any stand they think will hurt them politically.
6. Cowards: who are intimidated into silence by their television sets.
The worship of false gods violates God! This nation has seen nothing but drought, wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, industrial collapse, and other catastrophes because of our national, cowardly kowtowing to false religions.
We Have NEVER Been "Multi-cultural!"
In 1854 THE HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE of the United States declared: "Had the people during the revolution had any suspicion of an attempt to war against Christianity, that revolution would have been strangles in its cradle: At the time of the adoption of the constitution and its amendments the universal sentiment was that Christianity should be encouraged...That was the religion of the founders of the republic and they expected it to remain the religion of their descendants."
A NEW Bill of Rights
By no means do I desire to eliminate the first ten amendments of our Constitution. Nor do I believe the following should be added to it. These are just some things that I believe Americans have a right to expect.
1. I have the right to expect someone helping me on the phone to speak English understandably. (Do you think people in France have the right to expect their service representatives to speak French understandably? Arabs?)
2. I have the right to be served in hotels and restaurants by people who understand what cleanliness is.
3. I have the right to resent anyone who comes to this country and tries to make it the country they left.
4. I have the right to resent anyone who enters my country illegally.
5. I have the right to resent anyone who tries to claim English isn't our national language.
6. I have the right to resent school teachers who are too incompetent to teach their subject instead using their class to indoctrinate helpless children with their socialist gospel.
7. I have the right to resent my constitutional guaranteed "Free Press" being kidnapped by liberal totalitarians.
8. I have the right to resent the News Media covering for Muslim murderers.
9. I have the right to resent politicians who view one-world issues as more important than the sovereignty of my country.
10.I have the right to resent liberal judges who overthrow the will of the people by negating issues passed by voters just because of their own political prejudice.

McCarthy Bill Rammed Through The House
-- Deal between NRA leadership and Democrats leaves most Republicans
in the dark
Gun Owners of America E-Mail Alert

Phone: 703-321-8585 / FAX: 703-321-8408
http://www.gunowners.org
Thursday, June 14, 2007
Wednesday started out as a routine day in the U.S. Congress, with Representatives attending congressional hearings, meeting with constituents, perhaps devising clever new ways to pick our pockets.
At 8:30 in the morning an email went out to House Republicans indicating that a gun control bill, recently introduced by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), was on the Suspension Calendar (normally reserved for "non-controversial" bills).
Many Representatives didn't see that email until it was too late. Less than three hours later, the bill passed by a voice vote. The bill in question, H.R. 2640, is a massive expansion of the Brady Gun Control law, the subject of many previous alerts by Gun Owners of America.
Its passage in the House is a case study in backroom deal making, unholy alliances and deceit. A sausage factory in a third world country with no running water has nothing on today's U.S. Congress.
The Washington Post reported earlier this week that a deal had been struck between the NRA leadership and Democrat leaders in the House. The headline read: "Democrats, NRA Reach Deal on Background-Check Bill."
Red flags went up throughout the pro-gun community. Who was party to this "deal," and how many of our rights were being used as bargaining chips?
The McCarthy bill, at the time, looked to be going nowhere. The general consensus among pro-gun Congressmen was that any gun bill offered by McCarthy was simply DOA.
After all, if there were such a thing as a single issue Member of Congress, it would have to be McCarthy. Rep. McCarthy ran for office to ban guns; Hollywood made a movie about her efforts to ban guns; and she is currently the lead sponsor of a bill that makes the old Clinton gun ban pale by comparison.
Even many Democrats wouldn't go near a McCarthy gun bill. They have learned that supporting gun control is a losing issue. Enter Rep. John Dingell (D-MI), the so-called Dean of the House, having served since the Eisenhower administration. Dingell is also a former NRA Board member, and was in that capacity tapped to bring the NRA leadership to the table.
The end result of the negotiations was that this small clique among the NRA leadership gave this bill the support it needed to pass.
But why was it necessary to pass the bill in such an underhanded fashion? If this is such a victory for the Second Amendment, why all the secrecy? Why was a deal forged with the anti-gun Democrat House leadership, keeping most pro-gun representatives in the dark? Why was the bill rammed through on the Suspension Calendar with no recorded vote with which to identify those who are against us?
For starters, it would be a hard sell indeed for the NRA leadership to explain to its members what they would gain by working with McCarthy. If this legislation had gone before the NRA membership for a vote, it would have been rejected. For that matter, if it went through the House in the regular fashion, with committee hearings and
recorded votes, it would have been defeated.
Consider also what the bill is: GUN CONTROL! The lead sentence in an Associated Press article accurately stated that, "The House Wednesday passed what could become the first major federal gun control law in over a decade."
The bill's supporters can talk all they want to the contrary, but forcing the states to hand over to the federal government millions of records of Americans for the purpose of conducting a background check is certainly an expansion of gun control.
This is a bill designed to make the gun control trains run on time. Problem is, the train's on the wrong track. We don't need greater efficiency enforcing laws that for years we have fought as being unconstitutional.
Sure, there are provisions in the bill by which a person who is on the prohibited persons list can get his name removed, but not before proving one's innocence before a court, or convincing a psychiatrist that he should be able to own a gun (though most psychiatrists would be more likely to deem a person mentally defective for even wanting to own guns).
Sad thing is, this bill, which spends hundreds of millions of your dollars, will do nothing to make us safer. More gun control laws will not stop the next deranged madman. What will stop a killer is an armed law-abiding citizen. In the wake of the Virginia Tech tragedy, we should be considering removing barriers that prevent
honest, decent people from carrying their lawfully possessed firearms.
We don't know where the next shooting will occur; that's something the killer decides. So whether it is in a school, a church, a shopping mall or a government building, we should urge our elected officials to repeal so-called gun free zones and oppose more gun control.
Instead, we end up with a bill supported by Handgun Control and Sarah Brady, Chuck Schumer, Teddy Kennedy, Carolyn McCarthy, and the rest of the Who's Who of the anti-gun movement, and all the while the NRA leadership maintains that this is a win for gun owners.
This is a Faustian bargain, which will repeatedly haunt gun owners in the years to come.
But you should realize why they had to do it this way. Your activism has resulted in an avalanche of grassroots opposition against this bill. Gun owners have raised their voices of opposition loud-and-clear, and many congressmen have been feeling the heat.
The fight is not over. They still have to run this through the Senate. Already, there is a small cadre of pro-gun senators who are ready to slow this bill down and do everything they can to kill it. To be frank, a bill that has the support of all the anti-gun groups and the NRA will be tough to beat, but we will continue to fight
every step of the way.
Although we've suffered a setback, we want to thank all of you for the hard work you've done. Your efforts derailed the McCarthy bill for the past five years and we would have prevailed again were it not for the developments described above.
Be looking for an upcoming alert to the U.S. Senate. GOA will give you the particulars of the bill that passed the House, and we will provide you suggested language for a pre-written letter to your two senators.
Stay tuned. There is more to come.

Rep. Powell said yesterday that he would close down the U.S. military prison for enemy combatants at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, "this afternoon" because it has become a major problem in "the way the world perceives America." "Essentially, we have shaken the belief that the world had in America's justice system by keeping a place like Guantanamo open and creating things like a military commission," Powell said on NBC's "Meet the Press." Making it clear that he "would not let any of those people go," Powell said, "I would simply move them to the United States and put them into our more federal legal system." He said he sees no problem in detainees having the right of habeas corpus and getting their own lawyers. "Isn't that what our system is all about?" -Washington Post

Powell Would Close Guantanamo
Former secretary of state Colin L.

The Fred Thompson Record
Thanks to a good friend of mine, Teno Groppi, for this information. If you think that Fred Thompson is a good conservative, then after reading this, you will either change your mind, or be extremely angry at me for posting such.
Editor/RP
Here are some of the unconstitutional and liberal behaviors and actions of Fred Thompson. You will see clearly he's not the stalwart he's portrayed as. He's an ACTOR, both in Hollywood and Washington. He was a Tennessee Senator from 1995 to 2003. I missed a few sessions (and it's tedious to look them up), but this is more than enough to disqualify Thompson as a viable candidate for any Christian Constitutionalist.

(20) Counter-Terrorism Legislation, S. 735. This bill would federalize virtually all state crimes of assault, murder, kidnaping, sabotage, and even simple vandalism under the guise of anti-terrorism legislation as long as "the offense obstructs, delays, or affects interstate or foreign commerce in any way or degree...." Because the Supreme Court has since the 1940s ruled that almost everything under the sun has an effect on interstate commerce, the bill is a blanket federalization of the criminal code. The bill would also weaken the posse comitatus guidelines (which bans the use of the military in domestic police actions) to allow for military assistance in chemical and biological weapons cases, initiate a new foreign aid program for terrorism prevention, urge the President to "undertake immediate efforts to develop effective multilateral efforts" to stop terrorism, and authorize the President to use "all necessary means" to stop international terrorism -- including "military force." S. 735 does contain a few appropriate items such as longer jail sentences for terrorists and limitations on habeas corpus appeals from state courts, but the general direction of the legislation was best summed up by Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a proponent of the bill, in debate on the Senate floor: "[T]he Congress is faced with a decision to increase protection for the people by chipping away at the edges of freedom .... We have no idea what kind of mistakes will be made, or whose rights will be infringed, when this bill is implemented." The Senate passed the bill on June 7, 1995 by a vote of 91 to 8 (Congressional Record, page S7857, roll call 242; we have assigned pluses to the "nays" and minuses to the "yeas").
TG: This is a Nazi-KGB police state bill making most crimes federal. This takes power away from local law enforcement, who are accountable to the local taxpayers who pay their salary, and gives it to unaccountable, far-away, federal functionaries who can much more easily abuse the amassed power. Of course they would never abuse their power (that's what the Germans and Russians thought), at least not under a good conservative like George W. Bush - but maybe they could under Hillary.

(25) Non-Discriminatory Award of Federal Contracts, Amendment to H.R. 1854. During consideration of the fiscal 1996 legislative appropriations bill, Senator Phil Gramm (R-TX) offered this amendment to prohibit the awarding of federal contracts under the bill to anyone but the most qualified (i.e., those with the lowest bids), effectively prohibiting the Clinton Administration from carrying out various minority set-aside programs. While the Gramm amendment was being considered, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) offered an alternative amendment to prohibit the awarding of federal contracts to "unqualified persons" in the furtherance of "reverse discrimination." Gramm explained that "the whole purpose" of the language in the Murray amendment "is to confuse." The grant recipients who benefit from minority set-aside programs "very well may be qualified, but ... somebody else might have been better qualified or have submitted a lower bid." Interestingly, Murray even admitted in debate that nearly $8 billion in federal set-asides would be at risk if the Gramm amendment were added to each of the regular appropriations bills. Gramm's logic and Murray's admission notwithstanding, the Senate rejected the Gramm amendment on July 20, 1995 by a vote of 36 to 61 (Congressional Record, page S10418, roll call 317; we have assigned pluses to the "yeas" and minuses to the "nays"). The Senate subsequently adopted the fraudulent Murray amendment by a vote of 84 to 13.
TG: Fred, and his colleagues, want to be able to discriminate when spending YOUR money.
(28) Federal Funding for AIDS Programs, S. 641. This legislation would reauthorize "such sums as may be necessary" for the federal Ryan White CARE Program for AIDS research through fiscal year 2000, provided the total does not exceed the total for cancer research in any given year. While passage of this bill occasioned many senatorial self-congratulations as to how generous they are with other people's money, few senators heeded the constitutional limitations of the federal government under the Tenth Amendment, which prohibits the federal government from exercising any power not specifically authorized by the Constitution. The Senate passed the bill on July 27, 1995 by a vote of 97 to 3 (Congressional Record, page S10760, roll call 338; we have assigned pluses to the "nays" and minuses to the "yeas").
TG: Thompson voted more than once to spend your money on AIDS programs, which is unconstitutional even if it was a good thing (which it's not).

(43) Start II Treaty Ratification. This vote would ratify the second Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START II) with Russia, which would, by the year 2003, require the reduction in the total number of nuclear warheads to 3,500 for each country, ban MIRVed land-based missiles, and reduce the number of submarine-launched missiles. Noting that President Clinton had vetoed a bill to deploy a ballistic missile defense system because it might interfere with START II, Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) criticized the Clinton Administration policy, stating: "Yes, we are getting the Russians down to 3,500 missiles, if they comply.... My simple proposition is this: Missile defense should be our highest national security priority. If the President believes that our highest priority must be sacrificed to gain Russia's approval of START II, I say it is too high a price to pay." The Senate ratified the START II Treaty on January 26, 1996 by a vote of 87 to 4 (Congressional Record, page S484, roll call 6; we have assigned pluses to the "nays" and minuses to the "yeas").
TG: We would limit our arms and Russia would promise AGAIN to limit theirs (Pete Rose wants to bet on whether they do or not). Providing for AMERICAN defense is one of the few things gov't is supposed to spend our money on.
(54) Line-Item Veto Legislation, Conference Report on S. 4. This conference report would unconstitutionally grant the President line-item veto power in spending and tax bills by allowing him to cut or eliminate spending or a tax break within legislation after signing it into law. Congress would then have the option to pass a bill overturning the line-item deletion, but that bill would itself be subject to a veto by the President. This dangerous legislation would savage the separation of powers and further tip the scales of power from the legislature toward the executive branch. Although the legislation was marketed as a means of eliminating legislative pork, all it would do is make one player in the pork barrel politics game dominant: the President. As an example of how the line-item veto would be used to facilitate even more costly presidential pork, Senator Dale Bumpers (D-AR) recalled that when "I was governor ... I had a line-item veto. And I used it occasionally. Do you know what I used it for? To get legislators in line. 'Senator, you know that vo-tech school for your high school in this bill? That sucker is going to be gone unless you get back down there and change your vote.' That is the way I used it. That is the way a President of the United States would use it." The Senate adopted the conference report on March 27, 1996 by a vote of 69 to 31 (Congressional Record, page S2995, roll call 56; we have assigned pluses to the "nays" and minuses to the "yeas").
TG: This gives the President near-dictatorial legislative powers, which is unconstitutional and dangerous. How much more dangerous will it be when Hillary holds the pen? Ignorant Christians and conservatives are duped into thinking something might be a good idea if "their" guy is in office (not taking into consideration they are also being duped about who is "their" guy). But that will all change when a Democrat gets into office (or do they think Democrat will never get back into power?). They will be glad to take full advantage of such powers that OUR side gave them.
(57) Constitutional Amendment for Congressional Term Limits, Senate Joint Resolution 21. This resolution would call for a constitutional amendment to limit the number of consecutive terms a congressman could serve to two terms for senators (12 years) and six terms for representatives (12 years), regardless of the wishes of the voters. By preventing many congressmen from seeking re-election, the amendment would give Congress an increasing flavor of a perpetual lame-duck session and insulate congressmen from the wishes of their constituents. Lame-duck legislatures are the friends of special interests and the advocates of big, wasteful, and elitist government. The supporters of term limits attempted to invoke cloture and end debate on the measure (thereby clearing the way for a final vote to pass the resolution), but failed to do so on April 23, 1996 by a vote of 58 to 42 (Congressional Record, page S3879, roll call 79; we have assigned pluses to the "nays" and minuses to the "yeas"). A three-fifths vote of the entire Senate (60 votes) is necessary to invoke cloture. Failing the cloture motion, the Senate dropped the measure.
TG: Terms should be limited at the ballot box. What this did was keep a few honest conservatives from running again. What it would also do is create an entire Congress of lame-ducks who wouldn't have to worry about being accountable to their citizens. They could vote however they wanted, break any promise made, and not have to worry about reelection.

(79) Minimum Wage Increase, Conference Report on H.R. 3448. This bill would increase the federal minimum wage from $4.25 to $5.15 per hour in two stages ending September 1997. The bill also contains a number of tax breaks for individuals and small businesses totaling $20 billion over ten years -- elements added as a sugar coating to get the Senate to take the minimum wage-hike pill. The Senate adopted the conference report on August 2, 1996 by a vote of 76 to 22 (Congressional Record, page S9527, roll call 265; we have assigned pluses to the "nays" and minuses to the "yeas").
TG: Not all jobs are intended to support a family. There are lots of temporary, entry-level, non-skilled, part-time jobs intended for kids just getting into the work force, someone wanting a little extra cash working part-time or weekends, and so forth. Forcing employers to pay every bus boy twice what the market calls for forces them to only hire half as many bus boys, hurting the very lower class they pretend they are helping. If you want to hire a kid to walk your dog, mow your lawn or shovel your snow, should the gov't force YOU to pay them $9/hr? Why not? In such cases YOU would be the employer.

(2) Requiring Congressional Approval of U.S. International Trade Agreements That Amend U.S. Law, Senate Joint Resolution 5. Senator Ernest Hollings (D-SC) offered an amendment to S.J.R. 5 which would require congressional approval of any U.S. international trade agreements that amend or repeal U.S. laws. The amendment reads, in full: "No international trade agreement which would in effect amend or repeal statutory law of the United States law may be implemented by or in the United States until the agreement is approved by the Congress." As Senator Hollings noted during consideration of the amendment, "This is constitutional language, that no international agreement that would, in effect, amend or repeal statutory law can be implemented until approved by the Congress. Under the Constitution, Article I, Section 8, it is the duty of the Congress to regulate foreign commerce -- not the executive branch ...." Despite the constitutional mandate, the Senate approved on March 5, 1997 a motion to table (kill) the Hollings amendment by a vote of 84 to 16 (Congressional Record, page S1970, roll call 25; we have assigned pluses to the "nays" and minuses to the "yeas").
TG: Thompson might have been planning on running for President long ago. He keeps voting to give the President unconstitutional, dictatorial powers. Too bad he's voting that power to Hillary.
(9) Extending Welfare Benefits to Legal Immigrants, Amendment to S. 672. Senator Alfonse D'Amato (R-NY) offered this amendment to extend Supplemental Security Income and food stamp benefits to legal immigrants through September 30, 1997 -- the date those benefits are scheduled to end. D'Amato reasoned: "I do not believe we ever wanted to take 500,000 basically senior citizens and say that 'you're going to be cut off,' senior citizens who are here in this country legally ...." D'Amato did not point out that these welfare recipients are not even citizens and that, even if they were, the U.S. Constitution does not authorize the payment of welfare benefits. The Senate passed the D'Amato amendment on May 7, 1997 by a vote of 89 to 11 (Congressional Record, page S4068, roll call 58; we have assigned pluses to the "nays" and minuses to the "yeas").
TG: If they don't have a job, or a sponsor, they don't belong here. They certainly don't have the right to MY paycheck.
(11) Automatic Funding of Federal Government, Amendment to S. 672. Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) offered an amendment to strike language in S. 672 which would have put the federal government's spendathon on auto-pilot at the previous year's funding level if Congress and the President fail to pass a budget by the start of the next fiscal year. After the amendment was offered, Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) motioned to table (kill) the amendment. This legislation would have the identical effect as the amendment described under House vote #13. The Senate approved the Stevens motion, thereby favoring putting the government on automatic pilot in the event of no budget, on May 8, 1997 by a vote of 55 to 45 (Congressional Record, page S4172, roll call 61; we have assigned pluses to the "nays" and minuses to the "yeas").
TG: Tax, tax, tax, spend, spend, spend, and make it automatic!

(44) Anti-Free Speech Campaign Finance “Reform,” Motion on S. 1663. This legislation, commonly known as the McCain-Feingold campaign finance “reform” package, is the most dangerous threat to free speech to reach the floor of the U.S. Senate in decades. It would have a chilling effect on free speech by severely restricting independent expenditures, thereby crippling the ability of conservatives to overcome the leftist domination of the mass media. Under the broad and vaguely worded provisions of the bill, even nonpartisan voter guides such as the John Birch Society’s TRIM Bulletin could be subject to vigorous regulations, random audits, regular reporting requirements, and mandatory publication of contributor rosters. The bill’s authors must have known that it assaults constitutional principles, since it contains a “severability” clause that anticipates that at least part of it will be declared unconstitutional. A severability clause states that if the Supreme Court rules that one part of the law is unconstitutional, the court would throw out only that part and not the whole law. The McCain-Feingold bill was offered on the Senate floor as a substitute to campaign finance legislation already under consideration. The Senate rejected a motion to table (kill) the McCain-Feingold substitute on February 24, 1998 by a vote of 48 to 51 (Congressional Record, page S906, roll call 12; we have assigned pluses to the “yeas” and minuses to the “nays”).
TG: Sending out a post like this near an election would be illegal if Thompson had his way.

(66) Separate Male and Female Military Training and Barracks, Amendment to S. 2057. This amendment by Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) would have required segregated training for male and female recruits in the military, and separate barracks for male and female soldiers after basic training. “Let us not delay the process of implementing changes recommended by former Senator Kassebaum-Baker and the commission she headed, a commission established by the Secretary of Defense,” Senator Byrd urged. “Put these young recruits in separate barracks, train them separately until they have been installed in the military discipline....” The Senate rejected the Byrd amendment on June 25, 1998 by a vote of 39 to 53 (Congressional Record, page S7156, roll call 180; we have assigned pluses to the “yeas” and minuses to the “nays”).
TG: This is a tough one. Women don't belong in the military. But they don't deserve special treatment when they're in, either.
(70) Require All Gun Dealers to Make Trigger Locks “Available,” Amendment to S. 2260. This amendment would require that all federally licensed firearms dealers sell trigger locks, lock boxes, and other safety devices in addition to firearms. “My amendment requires that vendors have these safety devices available for sale,” explained Senator Larry Craig (R-ID), “but it does not require that a vendor sell a safety device along with every firearm.” The amendment would have unconstitutionally imposed an additional burden on the firearms industry, although it was promoted by Craig as a means of avoiding the even more draconian Boxer amendment under consideration (see Senate vote #71). The Senate adopted the amendment on July 21, 1998 by a vote of 72 to 28 (Congressional Record, page S8634, roll call 215; we have assigned pluses to the “nays” and minuses to the “yeas”).
TG: What? The great gun rights champion wants to put an inFRINGEment on our gun rights? He wants to force the cost of them to go up?
(76) Abolish Marriage Penalty in Tax Code, Motion on S. 2312. This amendment would have abolished the tax code’s so-called “marriage penalty,” which taxes a married couple at a higher rate than an unmarried couple living together. The amendment would have allowed married couples to file separately using “one half of the taxable income computed as if the spouses were filing a joint return.” “The federal government should not be penalizing marriages, a sacrosanct institution and the bedrock of our social structure,” Senator Dirk Kempthorne (R-ID) persuasively argued. The Senate rejected a motion to table (kill) the amendment on July 29, 1998 by a vote of 48 to 51 (Congressional Record, page S9177, roll call 242; we have assigned pluses to the “nays” and minuses to the “yeas”). Subsequently, the amendment was withdrawn.
TG: Why should Thompson care? He can afford it.
(78) Restore Congressional Control Over War Powers, Motion on S. 2132. This beautifully concise, one-sentence amendment would have prohibited funds in the Defense Appropriations bill from being used for “offensive military operations by United States Armed Forces except in accordance with Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, which vests in Congress the power to declare war and take certain other related actions.” Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) explained the rationale for his much-needed amendment: “The framers never intended the Armed Forces to be employed by the Executive as a blunt instrument for enforcing U.S. foreign policy without congressional approval. Yet … that is exactly what we have seen. Absent a reaffirmation by Congress of its proper constitutional war powers, we will certainly see it again.” The Senate tabled (killed) the Durbin amendment on July 30, 1998 by a vote of 84 to 15 (Congressional Record, page S9392, roll call 251; we have assigned pluses to the “nays” and minuses to the “yeas”).
TG: Yet another bill turning our president into a king (well, Queen).
* And several unconstitutional big spending bills in each session. Some of them were for "good" things, like agriculture, but it is nonetheless unconstitutional to spend taxpayer's money on things not authorized by the Constitution. The money is better left with the citizens who earned it.

(1) Impeachment of President Clinton, Article I. Article I — Grand Jury Perjury — is described in House vote #1. A two-thirds majority of the Senate would be required to convict the President and remove him from office. The Senate acquitted the President on February 12, 1999 by a vote of 45 to 55 (Congressional Record, page S1458, roll call 17; we have assigned pluses to the “Guilties” and minuses to the “Not Guilties”).
TG: He voted to keep Clinton in office. He SAID some damning things about Clinton's Commie China contributions, but when push came to shove he failed to WALK his talk.
(13) Ban on Assault Weapon Sales to Juveniles, Amendment to S. 254. Senator John Ashcroft (R-MO) offered this amendment to (in his words) “prohibit private sales of semiautomatic assault rifles to minors, and it would require that they have parental permission in order for one even to be in the possession of a minor.” The Senate adopted the amendment on May 13, 1999 by a vote of 96 to 2 with only Senators Michael Enzi (R-WY) and Robert Smith (R-NH) defending the right to keep and bear arms (Congressional Record, page S5236, roll call 115; we have assigned pluses to the two “nays” and minuses to the “yeas”).
TG: Another infringement on gun rights. 96 of 98 Senators violated their oath of office on this vote, making them lying frauds, if not traitors.

Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN), chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee which is investigating illegal campaign fundraising, grabbed headlines at the start of his hearings with the charge that the communist government of China has been illegally pouring "substantial sums of money" into U.S. political campaigns to "subvert our election process" and "buy access and influence in furtherance of Chinese government interests." However, citing national security concerns and the sensitive nature of the evidence supporting those assertions, Thompson did not provide substantiating details.
TG: Again, all talk, no WALK.
12-22-97 Article by William Jasper
Following close on the heels of the whirlwind car-trunk documents were revelations of at least two other major Clinton scandals involving either inexcusable ineptitude or (more likely) criminal obstruction of justice. In the one instance, the FBI claims it simply "overlooked" key intelligence information that it had failed to turn over to congressional investigators on Red China's efforts to buy political influence in the United States. Attorney General Janet Reno claims that she first learned of the evidence -- some of it going back as far as 1991 -- on November 5th, five days after Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) suspended Senate hearings into campaign finance abuses, including attempts by Beijing to subvert the U.S. political process.
TG: Just when they almost nailed the Clintons, Thompson suspended the investigation. Getting a little too close to the fire, eh, Freddie? Now Hillary will repay him by beating him in the general election.
Judicial Watch interview:
Q. Do you mean that no one really knew about this man’s activities until then?
A. Without our lawsuit, much of what has become known as “Chinagate” would never have come to light. What happened is that the Senate Government Affairs Committee headed by Senator Fred Thompson [R-TN] didn't subpoena Huang, and Attorney General Janet Reno’s Justice Department neither talked to him nor subpoenaed him. We know that Congressman Dan Burton [R-IN], chairman of the Government Reform and Oversight Committee, issued a subpoena to have him appear, but it was never enforced. And that raises the question: Why does John Huang have such protection?
TG: Just when they almost nailed the Clintons, Thompson came up short again.

8-97 85% Conservative
6-98 65% Conservative
10-1998 55% Conservative
1999

TG: Spend, tax, spend, tax, hide, and still pretend to be a fiscal conservative. Manage a business this way and you get fired (if not jailed), and they go belly-up.
