Mustang Report #2 - Part 2
Our Military at War - Part Two
The NEED to Re-Visit the Past
By Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Marvin
United States Army Special Forces (Retired)
Most of what I now write in this part is contained in my new book: Victory Edition, Expendable Elite - One Soldier's Journey Into Covert Warfare. It is particularly important that you read this book inasmuch as what it tells you about our leaders aiding and abetting the enemy during the Vietnam War was witnessed by me and was proven in Federal Court when a jury found my publisher and I not guilty of writing and publishing lies that defamed or libeled the plaintiffs. What I wrote or yet write is fact, really happened and we all need to do what we can to stop such actions that help our enemy from happening in the future.
I will briefly cover specific examples that I was personally witness to of our leaders aiding the enemy in 1966 in Vietnam and which are detailed in my book. I pray that each of you who read this, if you have a loved one who will be serving with our armed forces in battle in the future - no matter where or when - will read my book and then take immediate and aggressive action to demand that your Senators and Congressional Representatives do something concrete and public to protect our men and women in battle and to prohibit our leaders from aiding the enemy. Tell them it would be wise of them to call myself, MSG Gerald Willsey and US Navy CPO Dennis David to testify at a Congressional Hearing regarding those matters we are intimately familiar with that were, in fact, illegal operations precipitated by our government.
One of my grandsons is enroute to Iraq with his unit of the 82nd Airborne Division and he is happy to be serving his country as his grandfather did. He told me he wants to volunteer for Special Forces when he returns from Iraq. I asked him to wait until I was certain that he would not be sent on a mission as a Green Beret and, when they no longer needed his team, our government would send "friendly" forces to kill them as they tried to me and my men in June of 1966. "You may not be rescued as we were, I told him."
The Combat Infantrymen in Iraq and Afghanistan bear the brunt of the battle and sustain the most of the casualties as the enemy employs heinous methods of terror and death tactics with no regard for the innocent, most of whom we are there to protect. They wage a fanatic war of a suicidal nature with hit and run tactics designed to wreck havoc on the civilian population, while our combat infantrymen are denied the freedom to wage a war to win, forbidden to use those tactics necessary to destroy the enemy, and apparently not charged with locating and destroying his bases or his source of bombs, bullets and IEDs
We have allowed the enemy to use mosques as shelters and weapons storage caches while we were and perhaps yet are forbidden to destroy any of them. Is this policy just another way of aiding the enemy and extending the war as was the case when the Communist North Vietnamese and Viet Cong were permitted safe havens in Cambodia? Is it more important to maintain a continuing conflict, regardless of cost of people and resources to satisfy our industrial/political machine?
The heinous nature of certain political dictates of President Lyndon B. Johnson sacrificed our fighting men and their allies while granting our enemy sanctuaries and protected shipping routes. This is fact corroborated by one of those who did aid the enemy - the late General William C. Westmoreland- in his book A Soldier Reports. Understand that and you will then be mentally equipped to know why we lost the Vietnam Conflict and why we must be alert and aware so as not to risk a similar, costly defeat as we face the suicidal followers of Islam, intent on destroying non-Muslim governments, their forces and those Muslim groups who are "friends" with the USA. Remember first and foremost that it is those who carry the battle to the enemy on the ground - The Combat Infantrymen -who suffers the most in battle and who must take the ground and win the victory.
Perhaps you will believe that today is no different from those days in 1966… On 24 July 2003, I called and spoke on the telephone with General Tommy Franks at his Florida headquarters to let him know we were having a "Support the Troops Rally" in Cazenovia, New York. This pleased the General who then, because he had to go to a meeting, turned me over to his aide, LTC Chris Goedeke. I expressed our admiration here in this upstate New York Village for the General and also told of my personal concern that he did not appear to have sufficient troops in his command in Iraq to secure the population centers after they had taken the area and cleared the enemy out. I was led to believe, when told unequivocally that General Franks had only received half of the numbers of forces he had asked for to properly conduct the war that he had yielded to the desires and dictates of the Secretary of Defense. Had he knowingly ordered our forces into harm's way with insufficient men and women to realistically get the job done? One who wishes to remain anonymous advised me that Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld's staff that developed the invasion plans for Iraq was primarily comprised of personnel without any combat experience.
My questions to those who love this great nation of ours and support the troops:
Why has the world press refused to publish the truth??
Why has Congress permitted the Aiding of our Enemy?
General William C. Westmoreland, as Commander of all American Forces in South Vietnam from June of 1964 through March of 1968, aided the enemy by permitting them safe havens inside the Cambodian territory and permitting that same enemy the unrestricted use of the Mekong River to transport war materiel through South Vietnam to resupply their men in their sanctuaries inside Cambodia. It seemed obvious to me, after putting all of the facts together, that General Westmoreland considered his own position, rank and place in history more important to him than the lives of the Allied fighting personnel, particularly the combat infantrymen, and South Vietnamese civilians. He should have demanded an end to President Lyndon Johnson’s provision of safe-havens and protected supply routes to the enemy. Lacking positive action by the President, General Westmoreland should then have resigned publicly. He should have honestly informed the American people that he was leaving the service not wanting to be a part of the sham that was Vietnam. He knowingly supported the enemy by enforcing the provision of safe havens and protecting shipping routes for enemy war supplies while subjecting our forces to death and injury. My four best friends are listed as KIA on The Wall – all combat infantrymen. Perhaps if they had been given the opportunity to fight on a level field of battle, they and tens of thousands of others would yet be alive and the nation of South Vietnam would yet exist today. Corroborated proof of my direct knowledge of General Westmoreland’s acts to encourage and assist the enemy is contained in the Victory Edition, Expendable Elite - One Soldier's Journey Into Covert Warfare.
For added emphasis - I repeat some of what was already included in Mustang Report # 1: On page 218 of General Westmoreland’s nonfiction book A Soldier Reports © 1976, Doubleday & Company, Inc. he states rather matter-of-factly and very clearly that the enemy’s obvious use of Cambodia as a sanctuary and refusal of Washington authorities to allow me to do anything about it was frustrating. He went on to write of the proof of major shipments of arms and other supplies reaching the VC via international shipping passing through South Vietnam up the Mekong... It may have been “frustrating” to General Westmoreland, but his lack of action to deny the enemy sanctuaries and a protected supply route was indeed deadly to many tens of thousands of fighting men who depended on him for leadership. From what I was told by officers in Saigon in 1966, General Westmoreland couldn't have been too frustrated or he would have denied himself the playful pleasures of a daily tennis routine.
Strangely enough, on pager 261 of that same book, General Westmoreland tells of a quotation of Napoleon Bonaparte that was under a panel on [his] desk The quote: "A commander-in-chief cannot take as an excuse for his mistakes in warfare an order by his sovereign or his minister, when the person giving the order is absent from the field of operations and is imperfectly aware or wholly unaware of the latest state of affairs. It follows that any commander-in-chief who undertakes to carry out a plan which he considers defective is at fault; he must put forward his reasons, insist on the plan being changed, and finally tender his resignation rather than be the instrument of his army’s downfall."
The lack of strong moral leadership in this four star general is typified by his own admission in his book on page 220: "For long all we could do to the enemy in Cambodia was drop propaganda leaflets on our side of the border whenever the wind was right to blow them across." And, he states unequivocally on page 222, "My every request to inform the world press of the enemy’s use of Cambodia was denied…" Why didn't he resign, tell the press and the Congress and give our forces the right to win that war?
Another fact of life in South Vietnam at the time I served as a Green Beret in An Phu and Chau Doc was the lack of routine resupply of Special Forces units in the delta area by General Westmoreland’s Army depot in Saigon. This was a great cause of concern to me when I moved to Team B-42 in Chau Doc City and assumed responsibility for logistical support of Special Forces in the C-4 region of IV Corps Tactical Zone. In fact we ended up borrowing an LCU, going down river from Chau Doc to the Saigon Depot where we borrowed two of the depot’s 2½ ton trucks and drove past fearful guards to pick from the depots stock what we desperately needed. We loaded sand bags, small generators, pallets of ammunition and other miscellaneous “stuff” on their trucks and then onto the LCU and traversed the Mekong and Bassac Rivers back to Chau Doc, unloaded at the B Team dock and returned the LCU to where it was originally moored.
Could this be corroborated? Yes - Within a year of my return to the United States I was attending the US Army Quartermaster Career Course at Fort Lee, Virginia. Colonel Pieklik, the commander of the Saigon Depot at the time we were forced to steal those supplies, was courses' final guest speaker. He stood in front of our class and opened the floor to questions at the end of his prepared presentation. I, as class president, fielded the first question: Why had he shut off the supplying of our Green Beret camps in IV Tactical Zone in1966? I was impressed with the fact that he answered unequivocally, telling our class that the reason his depot was not supplying the Special Forces needs in the IV Tactical Zone (the entire delta area) was that General Westmoreland had personally ordered him not to.
He explained how Westmoreland’s futile attempts to convince the Commanding General of IV Tactical Zone (Lieutenant General Quang Van Dang) of the need to permit the use of conventional American forces in the delta had angered him to the extent that he denied logistical support of all unconventional forces in the Delta area.
What kind of man, much less a military supreme commander, would deny war supplies to his own men in battle because he didn't get his way with a foreign general? On 28 June 2005 I initiated action to request that an investigation of both General Westmoreland and LTC William Tuttle (lead plaintiff in the lawsuit against Kris and me) be conducted for General Court Martial action against them for aiding and abetting the enemy. General Westmoreland passed away on 18 July 2005 and I continued the action request against Colonel Tuttle. In a 20 January 2006 letter from Colonel Flora D. Darpino, Chief of the Criminal Law Division of the Office of the Judge Advocate General of Department of the Army, my request was denied. Each of you who read this should know it was denied - in Colonel Darpino's words "Colonel Tuttle declined to invade or fire into Cambodia [where the enemy sanctuaries were] based upon lawful military orders from his superiors." She went on to write "Soldiers are not permitted to disobey lawful orders merely because they disagree with the policies adopted by their superiors, regardless if the superior is military or civilian.: PLEASE write and ask those leaders in Washington "Is the President going to order or allow others below him to order that enemy forces be given sanctuaries and forbid our armed forces from fighting back at that enemy who is bent on killing our men and women.?
I am just plain fed up with our leaders not allowing our forces to win against an enemy they protect!
Together we can make a difference! PLEASE write your Congressman and demand a hearing on this matter with myself and my friend MSG Gerald Willsey invited to testify.

I am referring, of course, to the "elastic clause," the "sweeping clause" – the clause which states that Congress has the power "to make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof." ~ Art. I, Sec. 8, Par. 18

Can anyone seriously contend that the Founders, who had just expelled their British rulers mostly by use of light arms, did not want the individual farmer, blacksmith, or merchant to be armed? Those individuals would have been killed or imprisoned by the King's soldiers if they had relied on a federal armed force to protect them.

Secrecy rises: Washington gives public less and less
Thanks to mismanagement, inadequate resources and outright obstruction, Congress' ringing commitment to open government 40 years ago is now barely a murmur. In truth, people who run things in Washington have never been enthusiastic about having the public looking over their shoulders. President Lyndon Johnson tried to prevent passage of the Freedom of Information Act in 1966. Former Johnson aide Bill Moyers has said that LBJ "hated the thought of journalists rummaging in government closets."

It's Official!

Ron Paul officially declared his candidacy for the office of president of the united States of America this weekend. I, for one, am glad to see that this principled man has decided to run.
Here's some of the information regarding this announcement:
Press Release from Ron Paul 2008
For Immediate Release
Washington, March 12 -- Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) announced and discussed his candidacy for the Republican nomination for president of the United States this morning on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal program. Afterwards, paperwork was filed with the Federal Election Commission.
“The American people now have a real conservative in the race for president they can support,” stated Kent Snyder, chairman of the Ron Paul 2008 committee. He added, “Congressman Paul has a long and consistent record of a true conservative; a record we are eager to put against any candidate for the Republican nomination.”

Commentary: My Thoughts Exactly
Little Red Riding Hood
A Politically Correct Version
I have seen various versions of this one before, but when I came across this today, I thought it would make a good posting, considering that the fight over the Second Amendment has been heating up recently.
Editor/RP
We all know the story of Little Red Riding Hood so lets cut to the end for the alternative ending.
Red says, “My grandma what big teeth you have.”
The wolf jumping out of bed says, “The better to eat you with my dear.”
Little Red, having sensed something was not quite kosher, had reached into her basket and clutching her revolver fired three times badly wounding the wolf.
The moral of that story is that thanks to mini hand guns young ladies are not as helpless as they used to be.
But the story doesn't end there.
Upon hearing of this incident The ATF, FBI and the Justice Department filed gun charges against Riding Hood. The state filed charges of threatening an endangered species and cut the wolf a deal to testify against Miss Hood. The wolf then filed a class action lawsuit against Little Riding Hood saying he meant no harm that he was only trying to find a warm place to sleep and a warm meal. The case was however dismissed, when the Government’s key witness was killed trying to climb down the chimney of the three Pigs.
The survivors of the wolf are now fling suit saying that the pigs had purposely made the chimney unsafe causing the death of wolf who was only looking for something to eat.

Dead Horse
I have forgotten where I found this at, but it speaks volumes about the mentality of government and bureaucratic officials.
Editor/RP
The tribal wisdom of the Lakota Sioux, passed on from generation to generation, says: "When you discover that you are on a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount."
However, in government, education, and in corporate America, more advanced strategies are often employed, such as:
1. Buying a stronger whip.
2. Changing riders.
3. Appointing a committee to study the horse.
4. Arranging for foreign travel to see how other cultures ride dead horses.
5.Lowering the standards so that dead horses can be included.
6. Reclassifying the dead horse as living-impaired.
7. Hiring outside contractors to ride the dead horse.
8. Harnessing several dead horses together to increase speed.
9. Providing additional funding and/or training to increase the dead horse's performance.
10. Doing a productivity study to see if lighter riders would improve the dead horse's performance.
11. Declaring that the dead horse does not have to be fed, costs less, has lower overhead and therefore contributes substantially more to the bottom line of the economy than do other horses.
12. Rewriting the expected performance requirements for all horses.
And of course...
13. Promoting the dead horse to a supervisory position.

Friends 'til the end

I came across this today. I thought it was hilarious, and decided to post it. I have been blessed to have had some very good friends in my life. But, just because they have done something stupid, didn't mean I was going to do it. I guess it is obvious by my posts, but I have never "gone with the flow".
