So far, it looks like our president and members of Congress are happy to let two Border Patrol Agents, Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos, go to prison for simply doing their jobs. Claims by the US Attorney, who prosecuted the men, that the agents “violated” the Fourth Amendment rights of the Mexican drug smuggler are irrelevant. A foreigner has no rights of any kind under the Constitution! These men were protecting their country against a dangerous man who has reportedly smuggled drugs into the US on more than one occasion! This is all a clear case of government stupidity in the extreme.
Grassfire.org has also started a petition online to send to President Bush asking that he pardon these men. This is in addition to the other petition available at JusticeforBorderPatriot.com that I mentioned in a previous article about this issue. Please take the time to sign it. The more pressure our elected officials receive on this, the more likely they are to do what is right. It is sad that we live in a day when we have to pressure our representatives into doing the right thing, but we do.
Also, according to some reports, the man whom Agents Ramos and Compean shot, has recently been caught trying to smuggle more drugs across the border. Those that are doing their jobs, and doing what they must to protect us, are being punished. Those that seek to harm us are given a pat on the back, and essentially told to do it again.
Help these men out. Sign this and other petitions to President Bush. Continue to call, write and email your US Senators and Representatives, and your state senators and representatives.
